Crater represents the cup of the Greek god Apollo and is woven into the celestial tapestry alongside Corvus (the crow) and Hydra (the water snake).
Apollo, the god of prophecy and music, needed water for a ritual and sent his sacred bird Corvus, to fetch it using a cup, Crater. The bird got distracted by a fig tree, decided to wait for the figs to ripen, and indulged in a feast. Realizing it was late, the crow tried to cover up its laziness by blaming a water snake (Hydra), claiming it had blocked the stream.
Apollo saw through the lie and in divine frustration, cast all three, the crow, the cup, and the snake, into the sky as constellations.
Gold - symbolises divine intention and honour, cups used in offerings were often gilded, reflecting their sacred purpose.
